The Future is Awesome - Hurry Up and Get Here!

If you ask a child about the future, you might just gain a whole new and wonderful perspective.  I once had the great pleasure of asking my seven year-old son a very important question.  I wanted to know his pure thoughts about the truth of life.  I asked with a genuine desire to hear his unaffected thoughts about what he would ask if he had the chance to tell adults what to do in order to create a happy world.  At first, he said he wouldn’t even bother because he knew the adults wouldn’t listen to him.  My heart sank.  How sad to hear a response like that.  My son didn't expect to be listened to or heard by the adults of the world.

Needing to get past his belief that he wouldn't be listened to (so why bother) perspective, I asked him to imagine that he was fully heard by the adults, and they would do everything he asked.  He immediately perked up with a sly smile, and listed all the toys he wanted.  I played along and said, "Absolutely.  Your wish is our command!" He loved imagining this.  He lit up like the fourth of July – not for the thought of toys alone, but also at the idea that adults would actually listen to him.  Finally seeing him in his state of happiness at being heard, and wanting to keep him in this mindset, I then asked him what he would tell adults to do in order to make the world a happy place for everyone and everything.  Here is what he said:

~ Everyone should stop what they were doing and start picking up garbage.
~ Everything should cost two dollars.
~ Everyone should have their own pony that comes when you whistle.
~ Your perfect girlfriend or boyfriend would appear when you were ready.

Translation:

~ Stop working and start cleaning up the planet.
~ Stop profiting off each other.
~ Connect with nature in beneficial ways.
~ Make yourself ready for the perfect companion.

These are the types of incredibly wise and intelligent things we can learn from children, if we can get past their fears of not being heard or respected.  “The wisdom of babes” is the wisdom of pure hearts and minds.  The younger the child, the purer the wisdom.  When we ask correctly and genuinely of a child, in a way that allows for the truth to come through, with total trust and respect that we will hear pure truth, we will unearth vast treasure troves of knowledge.

When we let our every action be for the purpose of creating a happy world for the Children, the future is AWESOME!  When we remember the Children are our greatest treasure, and honor them for the bright beauty they carry within, we will know our Salvation.
